Chengdu does slow afternoons better than almost anywhere in China. The best cafés are often inside old residential lanes or converted courtyards: low stools, tea, plants, and no rush.

This route links three courtyard-style spots, with enough time to sit rather than queue. It is a guide for a lazy afternoon, not a checklist.

How this guide was built: Compiled from public venue information and recent visitor reports (checked October 2026). Café photography was supplied with the original guide. Confirm current hours before visiting.
The route

Two slow afternoons

01 Yulin

Yard Coffee

gravel courtyard

02 Xiangheli

Counting

ceramics and matcha

03 Jinniu

Urafuu

small garden courtyard

Split this over two afternoons. Two stops per afternoon is enough; the point is to sit, not to collect cafés.

01

Counting 正Counting器物咖啡

Xiangheli · Yushuang Road · Japanese-style ceramics

A quiet lane, a wabi-sabi room, ceramics and careful lighting. The matcha latte is layered green and white with a small flower; the shop feels like a small exhibition. Every corner has a designer’s hand in it, from the lamps to the texture of the tables.

Order Matcha latte (Ethiopian beans + Uji matcha)

Where: 125 Xiangheli, Chenghua (成华区祥和里125号; Metro Line 6, Yushuang Road Exit E2)

Best time Late afternoon, when the lane is quiet.
Good to know The entrance is in the alley; follow the map, not the main road.

02

Yard Coffee 院子Yard Coffee

Yulin · Fangcao Street · gravel courtyard

Push open the wooden door and you find a gravel yard with bamboo chairs, plants and old eaves. It is Chengdu’s slow life in one room: sit down, order a coffee, and watch the leaves fall.

Order A simple coffee; sit in the gravel courtyard

Where: Fangcao Street, Yulin, Wuhou (武侯区玉林路芳草街)

Best time Early afternoon; the courtyard is best in soft light.
Good to know Outdoor seats are popular on sunny days; rain adds atmosphere but space is limited.

03

Urafuu 裏風URAFUU

Jinniu · small garden courtyard

A small courtyard café with a strong garden feel. Less a ceramics exhibition than Counting, more like visiting a friend’s home. It is the kind of place where the afternoon disappears without you noticing.

Order A quiet coffee; ask what is seasonal

Where: Jinniu District (金牛区)

Best time A second afternoon; do not rush it.
Good to know No suitable venue photo was available for this guide; the draw is the courtyard. Check current hours before going.
☕

No venue photo — the courtyard is the draw.

We left this one unphotographed rather than use someone else’s image. Go for the garden, not the grid.
